US Strategic Petroleum Reserve Reaches Historic Lows

The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) was established in 1975. The goal of this law was “to reduce the impact of severe energy supply interruptions.” The SPR consists of four sites with underground storage caverns along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coasts.

An Old Molecule for a Sustainable Future

Humans have been producing alcohol (aka ethanol) for consumption dating back millennia. In more recent decades, ethanol has jumped from alcoholic beverages to fuel tanks, finding use as an octane booster for gasoline, especially during periods of fuel shortage such as World War II and the 1970s energy crisis.
